Professional Standards at New Norcia has been broadened to include Catholic Professional Standards Ltd (CPSL) which was formed in response to the findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Established by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (ACBC) and Catholic Religious Australia (CRA), it operates independently of the Church. There are no bishops, priests or religious brothers or sisters on the CPSL Board. CPSL board directors are lay people with professional expertise in the fields of law, education, human services, safeguarding and regulation.

CPSL will audit compliance with the Safeguarding Standards it has produced, holding the leaders and members of Catholic organisations accountable for the safety of children and vulnerable adults who come into contact with the Church and its works.

We at New Norcia are fully committed to align our compliancy with the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards. We have signed a Service Agreement and have completed the first stage of the auditing process (self-audit). The second stage of the auditing process (on-site visit) will take place 11-12 November 2019. CPSL will subsequently publicly report the audit findings and provide education and training in respect of the Safeguarding Standards.
